Course Aims:
Basic First Aid Course was created to help students develop basic first aid knowledge, skills, and the confidence to respond. The program is an excellent choice for both the community and workplace setting.
Course Objectives:
By the end of the course the student should be able to:
- Knowledge Objectives:
- Explain the principles of first aid
- Explain the priority of personal safety when responding to an emergency situation.
- Explain the importance of universal precautions and using PPE
- Describe the steps of a primary assessment of a conscious and unconscious casualty
- Describe the steps of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
- Describe how to recognize and provide treatment for a choking patient
- Describe how to recognize and provide first aid treatment for severe bleeding
- Describe how to recognize and provide first aid treatment for shock
Skill Objectives:
- Correctly demonstrate the removal of contaminated gloves
- Correctly perform the primary assessment for a conscious and unconscious casualty
- Correctly demonstrate the steps of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
- Correctly demonstrate the Heimlich maneuver on a choking patient
- Correctly demonstrate how to control severe bleeding
